About My Homemaking Blog

When I was in school, my sister and I spent every Saturday morning doing chores. We’d trade off each week on the major ones, and had our daily chores to upkeep, too. For instance, one week I’d clean the bathrooms while she vacuumed and washed the floors. The following week we’d trade off.

I later learned my mother was raised this way with her two sisters. Only one of my aunts would bargain to trade off chores so she could go out with friends. They would also trade who did what each week – my mom hated vacuuming, but loved outdoor work, like maintaining the garden. My aunt hated gardening and preferred floor work. Therefore, they traded off permanently.

Were there brothers around? You bet. My mother and aunts had two brothers. My sister and I have one brother. They had their own work around the house, but us females were meant to cook, clean, and never stop.

I know there are women out there who prefer to be a traditional homemaker, while their husbands work – Trad Wives. And I know husbands who prefer to stay at home and clean, rather than work. I’m not saying these are bad approaches. It makes them happy! And I believe that if anyone is happy, then the world is that much better to live in.

For me, I love to work and I love to keep a comforting home. The problem is both are full-time jobs. That’s when I learned how to create balance.

Everything I write here has to do with these lessons. I know not everyone sees homemaking and working the same way as I do, but there has got to be someone out there who does. It makes my heart happy to work toward a career I am good at.

I feel fulfilled. I feel proud. Equally, it makes me very happy to provide my family with a delicious homecooked meal I made completely from scratch. I love to make sure fresh towels are on hand. I love to see clean floors as I pace around the house. And my favorite thing:

When we are all done with work for the day, I love to have candles and amber lights glowing in our home during the dusk of the night.

Future Homemakers Are Authentic

No matter if you’re traditional or if you’re proud to be lazy, we all need to seek to be happy in our spaces. Whatever that looks like for you is important – it has to be your preference.

I share in my blog all about my preferences and how I’ve managed to be the best of both worlds – according to me. I’m not going to tell you that if you have crumbs on your counter you’re failing as a homemaker.

My goal is to show you that there is a sweet spot in housekeeping and even designing your home. The key is to make sure it fits your lifestyle and that you are content with it.

Follow along as I post new content. My writing comes from inspiration and not from any book or magazine. I write about what I’ve seen, done, and theorized on. May these posts help ease up your life at home and bring you nothing but joy.

Or contact me to send me any stories or feedback. Can’t wait to hear from you!
